During the Revolution of 1821, the heroic acts of Greek fighters found resonance in francophone newspapers in Québec and Montréal and may have inspired Québec Patriots in the uprising of 1837. Also in 1837 the first grammar of Ancient Greek with Modern Greek pronunciation was printed for the use of the Collège de Montréal. During his visit to Greece two years later, Joly de Lotbinière photographed the Parthenon in what may be the first-ever daguerreotype of the Parthenon (1839). In visiting Athens, francophone travellers from Québec described recently liberated Greece in their travel diaries.
